Ariana Madix discussed a skin cancer scare
Ariana Madix posted about attending an I Heart Radio event back home. She posted an image in front of the step and repeat backdrop, which caused a number of fans to react with concern.
Madix was rocking a chic bodysuit and jean jacket number but fans seemed to react more to a large gash along Madix’s clavicle bone. When fans asked questions on her Instagram post, Madix openly discussed the orientation of the scar, which she actually addressed weeks prior.
In a New Year’s Eve post, Madix flicked at having skin cancer removed. Buried in the list of what she accomplished this year and hopes to accomplish, Maddix wrote, “I had to have a lil bit o’cancer removed from my body and lymph nodes biopsied. (In the clear now!)”
In the same post she included a video of the bandaged area and said, “Still waiting on biopsy results—lymph node biopsy results, so hopefully next week I get a clear on that…until then, I feel really disgusting.” She added that she wasn’t allowed to shower and felt extra gross.
Fans noticed a scar across Madix’s clavicle in a recent image and inquired about it. Some were unaware she had skin cancer surgery so Madix answered questions on Instagram.
When some followers wondered if the scar was from a port, Madix responded, “no. It’s a large removal of skin from October. Luckily, it should heal vertically, but it’s about 4 inches long. The other one is in my pit crack lol.”
But when a follower asked if she had a mole removed, Madix revealed her diagnosis. “melanoma, not a mole. Mole removal would be able 1/4 inch scar.”
And added these scary comments. “When you raise concerns with a doctor, be persistent. They told me i was fine for years.”
Another follower pointed out that even young people can develop melanoma. “It’s great that you’re sharing that it was melanoma @ariana252525. People your age sometimes forget that skin cancer isn’t just something older folks get, it can happen at any age. This may help inspire others to follow up on suspicious spots. Glad you’re ok now.”
The American Cancer Society notes only 1% of skin cancer cases result in melanoma diagnosis. But cases have increased over the last 30 years. Approximately 96,480 melanomas will be diagnosed in 2019 and about 7,230 people could die from melanoma.
