Amala Paul to star in Telugu version of Lust Stories
Amala Paul who was last seen in Tamil thriller Aadai, has been signed to play the lead in one of the segments of Telugu version of Lust Stories which marks Netflix’s foray into Telugu market.
Netflix’s Lust Stories, which released in 2018, sparked a lot of debate among film buffs. The anthology film is all set to get its Telugu remake, which will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The anthology film, which was finalised long back, is finally taking shape.
The Hindi version of Lust Stories had Kiara Advani, Radhika Apte, Bhumi Pednekar, and Manisha Koirala playing the lead roles in each segment with Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, and Dibakar Banerjee, directing it respectively.
It may be noted here that Amala Paul was caught in a controversy over her last release Aadai. Directed by Rathna Kumar, it was an A certified film. Considering the huge popularity that Amala Paul enjoys in the Andhra and Telangana states, Aadai was released in Telugu as well.
Nandini Reddy, who rose to fame with Oh Baby recently, handpicked the Aadai girl to play the lead role in her segment. The shooting of the film commenced recently.
Sources reveal that Amala Paul will be essaying a bold role yet again after Aadai (Aame in Telugu). This segment will also feature Jagapathi Babu as one of the actors.
Currently, Amala Paul has a slew of films in her kitty including Cadaver. She is not only playing the lead role in it and the film will also be her maiden production venture.
Anoop Panicker is directing this film with Abhilash Pillai in charge of scripting. Reports are that the film is based on some real-life investigative cases. Amala Paul has done a lot of research to get into the skin of the character and had trained under a pathologist.
In Tamil, the actor has Adho Andha Paravai Pola, which is in the post-production mode and in Malayalam she has director Blessy’s Aadujeevitham.
There are also reports that Amala might have landed an important role in Mani Ratnam’s film, an adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan. She also awaits the release of her maiden Hindi film which also stars Arjun Rampal.
Amala was supposed to star in a film opposite Vijay Sethupathi. However, she was eventually dropped from the project as she was not “production-friendly”.
“I am writing out of my great disappointment, as I have been thrown of an ongoing movie, tentatively titled VSP33, stating a simple statement by the production that I am not production-friendly. This statement has put me in great introspection whether I have been supportive or unsupportive to the production houses in my career,” Amala said in a statement.
She further wrote that such an accusation has never been laid upon her during her decade-long career by any of her colleagues, peers or acquaintances in the film fraternity.
“I can recall, rather vividly, I have in fact lent my support to all my production houses whenever such a situation rose.”
Nandini Reddy, on the other hand, has signed a new film with the producers of Mahanati. Tipped to be a romantic drama, the yet-untitled film is expected to go on the floors later this month or early November.
